Catarina and Arturo

Here is the legend of Catarina and Arturo (I definitely did not write this one guys)...and, as the story goes...
Arturo, who was a Portuguese fisherman, met a beautiful girl named Catarina his first night in a seaside town off the coast of Oregon. After some time they fell in love. But Catarina's father was the territorial governor. He didn't want his only little girl to be with a lowly fisherman. So he told Arturo that he'd have to ship off, which he did, but not before Arturo told Catarina he'd be back for her. Arturo told her that when he came back, he'd signal his approach from the distant waters with three long blasts from his boat so she could dive off the rocks and swim to the boat. He would pick her up and they'd be on their way, finally to be reunited for the rest of their lives.
A year later everything went as planned. But when Catarina was swimming out to Arturo's boat, the fog became so thick that she couldn't find the boat. Arturo panicked and he called out "Catarina! Catarina!" Catarina yelled back "Arturo!" With that, he dove right off the boat into the icy waters, and they...were never seen again.
It has been said that they never found each other and during their desperate search for one another they both drowned. But the legend is they reunited at the bottom of the sea and every time you see the spray going up as the waves hits the rocks of the shore....that's Arturo and Catarina making love.
Thus, the name of this painting is "Catarina waits for Arturo". It is painted on a thick piece of beveled wood. I thought it fitting for Valentine's day even though the story is a little sad. Who can deny true love, eh?!

You see their initials on her suitcase? In my version she dramatically tosses her parasol over her head upon hearing the first signal form the boat before diving into the water. The suitcase is to serve as a flotation device for her little puppy. (Don't worry dear readers..this is the P.G. version....of course the puppy swims back to shore!)
Catarina will be on ebay tonight. Thank you so much for your warm welcome back wishes. I really appreciate it! I hope you all are having a great week!
